Calendar Year: February to November
The South Africa: Nelson Mandela University program is affiliated with Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU). Located in Port Elizabeth, NMMU was created in 2005 by the merger of the former University of Port Elizabeth and the Port Elizabeth Technikon. NMMU draws students from around the world, with more than 3,000 international students making up its 27,000 student population.
CSU IP students enroll directly in NMMU, studying alongside local students and gaining the experience of being fully integrated into life at NMMU and in South Africa. Students will primarily take coursework in their major, concentrating their studies on one or two areas of study and taking courses in that department in order to integrate into the academic life of the university. The main language of instruction at NMMU is English, and all CSU IP students are required to study the Xhosa language and culture as part of their academic program at NMMU.
For more information about the academic program, students may refer to the Academic Bulletin for the previous year. Note that course offerings are subject to change and may not be offered during the year of intended study.
NMMU is located in Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape Province. Located on the southeastern coast of South Africa, the province is the third largest in South Africa. NMMU has six campuses (five in the Port Elizabeth Metropole and one in George) with CSU IP studying at the main campus, South Campus, in Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth.
Students live in off-campus student housing near the university’s South Campus in Summerstand. Upon acceptance, NMMU provides students with accommodation information and makes all housing arrangements for the students prior to their arrival in Port Elizabeth.
