Program Description:

History & Anthropology in Morocco

  • Dates: June 6th - July 1st, 2020
  • Program Highlights: A major objective of the program is to help students form a thorough understanding of the culture of North Africa, especially the role of Islam, European influence, and various cultural practices.

  • What's Included: 
    • ​Group airport pickup and drop-off (one transfer included, based on common flight time)
    • Meals: All breakfasts, 7 lunches, 12 dinners
    • Homestay accommodations in Meknes
    • Hotel accommodations in Fes, Merzouga, Marrakesh, Essaouira, and Rabat (shared rooms)
    • Overnight camp accommodations in Merzouga
    • City tours of Meknes, Chefchaouen, Volubilis, Taza, Fes, Marrakesh, Essaouira, and Rabat
    • Cultural activities including a visit to a Hammam, chance to interact with local
      Moroccan students, service learning experience, visit to a zawiya (external only), camel ride, 4x4 desert ride in the Sahara, hiking in Imlil followed by lunch with local family, & more!

  • Locations: Various cities in Morocco including: Meknes, Chefchaouen, Volubilis, Taza, Fes, Rabat, Merzouga, Marrakesh, Imlil and Essaouira.

  • Courses:

    • Early application & deposit is strongly encouraged to secure your spot.  Proof of a valid passport is required prior to the trip.  Any disability requiring special attention must be reported to the instructor. All participants in this program must register for credit, including non-matriculated individuals.
  • Deadlines & Fees: 
    • March 1, 2020: Application & Deposit ($500) due; paid online to Worldstrides (deposit is non-refundable if program has sufficient amount of students by 03/02/2020). 
    • April 1, 2020: Final Program Fees ($2,804) due; paid online to Worldstrides
    • May 1, 2020: Course Unit fees ($1,800) & Travel Course Fees ($335) due to CSU, Chico RCE 
    • Total Program Fees: $5,438.50
  •  Passports: 
    • Participants in this program must have a valid passport that expires no sooner than 6 months after the return date of the program. Those needing a U.S. Passport can apply in the Passport Place at CSU, Chico, located in the Student Services Center Room 440. 
    • Routine service for first time applicants (age 16 and over) takes 6 -8 weeks from form DS11 submission date.
    • Expedited services for first time applicants (ages 16 and over) takes 2 -3 weeks from form DS11 submission date. There is an additional fee for this service.

Note: Above program fees do not include round-trip international airfare, meals other than those listed in the program, laundry, or personal expenses.
