Bilingualism and Culture in Quebec
 

  • Highlights: Become immersed in Canada's unique cultures and languages as you explore the gorgeous cities of Montreal and Quebec. Discover Orleans Island and Montmorency Falls, visit historic old towns, and enjoy the beautiful architecture that characterizes Canada's cultural capitals. The course will also include guided city tours, visits to national museums, and a two-day jazz festival, all of which are designed to help students develop an understanding of how a bilingual culture functions.

  • Faculty - Denise Minor: Dr. Minor is from Pocatello, Idaho, but believes that she was supposed to have been born in Veracruz, Buenos Aires, Segovia or anywhere that Spanish is spoken. . She began her professional life as a journalist but moved to San Sebastian, Spain where she taught English. It was there that she realized that she loved both Spanish and teaching. She earned an MA in Spanish from San Francisco State and then a PhD in Spanish Linguistics from the University of California, Davis. Since 2007 she has been a professor at Chico State teaching some lower division classes as well as courses in linguistics. 
     
  • Total Estimated Cost: $4,156
    • Includes: Course fee, international airfare, other transportation, hotels, admission to sites and tours. Estimated cost for food and transportation, not included in the above cost, is roughly $240 and $40 respectively.
