Program Description:


  • Shinshu University is spread across five campuses within Nagano Prefecture. Surrounded by a beautiful natural landscape with mountains and hot springs, Nagano was the location of the 1998 Winter Olympics.
  • The International Center is located on the Matsumoto Campus. Beginning and intermediate Japanese students attend classes in the Japanese Language Program.
  • Advanced Japanese students may enroll directly with the department of their major field of study.
  • Final acceptance is based on host university approval.


  • All students make their own housing arrangements using information provided by the host university. Some students prefer to reserve on-campus housing before departure, whereas others prefer to arrive early, stay in a youth hostel and look for off-campus housing (homestays or shared apartments).
